INDIE ROCK, PSYCH ROCK
WHO ARE FLOWER EXTRACT?
“I knew these guys weren’t going to be just another indie-jerkoff band” - Anonymous, Overheard at a Gig 2022
Flower Extract is a 4-piece indie-psych-rock band from nipaluna. Musically they create a sound that is both unique and familiar, and have cultivated a reputation for energetic, spontaneous, and occasionally nonsensical live shows.
The project began in 2016 when Finn, Rastin and Floyd started playing and recording improvised psychedelic pieces. What followed was half a decade of formative writing, resulting in hours of unreleased material and a unique, tight creative bond. In 2021 Flower Extract stepped into the world as a live project, quickly adding Charlie’s synthesiser talents to the ranks, and filling out some of nipaluna’s favourite venues.
The band takes pride in melding unique, surprising songwriting with dreamy textures, danceable earworms, and sardonic observations of modern life. Their music shows the vague influence of acts such as Low Hum, Men I Trust, the Cactus Channel and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, but ultimately sits in its own lane.
WHAT ARE THEY UP TO?
In late 2021 and early 2022 Flower Extract hit a rich creative vein, holling up in studio spaces around Tassie to track the makings of an EP(s). In March 2022 they unveiled the first, self recorded single from this body of work - A Winter.
A song about drifting and the transience of human connection, A Winter showcases the band’s tender side. Reverb drenched guitar, delicate drums, animated bass lines and lush layers of synth create an emotive pallet for Finn’s crooning, resigned musing. “It fades away, the childhood friends won't stay. In the strangest way, I miss your surrounds”.
Following the release the band took to the stage for a string of shows, making it as far north as Launceston, and continuing to write more material. The coming months will see them focus on completing their debut EP, with more music due for release in late 2022.
